The brief

The client wanted a 5.2.4 Dolby Atmos home theatre in the living room of their condominium apartment.

Absolute Sound specified Klipsch Reference Premiere loudspeakers and subwoofers for the room, with in-ceiling Klipsch PRO-14RC speakers for the height channels.

The system is finished in ebony. The television is wall-mounted above a long dark-wood media console. Two RP-6000F II floorstanding loudspeakers stand either side of the console and carry the front left and right channels, with an RP-1000SW subwoofer beside each. An RP-504C II sits in the open middle shelf of the console, below the screen, and handles dialogue. The RP-500M II bookshelf loudspeakers, on floor stands by the seating, take the rear surround channels. Four PRO-14RC in-ceiling speakers carry the Dolby Atmos height channels.

A film on this system is built around dialogue, height and weight. Dialogue comes from the RP-504C II, which carries four 5.25-inch woofers and a horn-loaded tweeter, set below the screen so voices stay with the picture. Klipsch credits its Reference Premiere horn with crisper, clearer sound, and the same horn design sits in the front floorstanders, the centre and the rear surrounds, so a sound that crosses the room passes between speakers of matching character. Four PRO-14RC in-ceiling speakers carry the Dolby Atmos height channels, so rain, helicopters and aircraft pass above the seats rather than across the screen. Two 10-inch RP-1000SW subwoofers give explosions and low notes in the score their weight.

Straight-on view of the front wall: two Klipsch floorstanders, a subwoofer at each end of the console, and the centre speaker below the TV.
