Description
The Madison Power S is an outboard power supply for the Madison Streamer. It plugs into the mains and feeds the Streamer’s DC input with 5V at up to 3A, so the Streamer is no longer running from its small external supply. Wattson says it can be used with all Madison Streamers.
It is a hybrid design. A switching stage does the conversion efficiently, then passive and active filtering and a discrete bipolar transistor regulator clean the output. There is no mains transformer in the signal path, and the case is milled aluminium. It is made in Préverenges, Switzerland, where Wattson and CH Precision share a workshop, and the design draws on CH Precision’s power supply work.
It follows the Streamer into standby: when the Streamer goes to standby the Power S drops to a low-power mode, and the manual puts the total below half a watt. It is protected against over-voltage, over-current, short circuit and over-temperature. It is worth considering once the Streamer is in a system good enough to show the difference; it does not add any function.
