Description
Majik LP12 is Linn’s entry point into the Sondek LP12 platform, which runs the full width of the company’s analogue range, from Majik through to Klimax. At Majik specification, it carries the same core architecture as every LP12 above it: a sandwich-construction aluminium sub-chassis, Linn’s patented single-point Karousel bearing, and a low-noise power supply mounted internally rather than added as a separate box.
The tonearm is Krane, a static-balanced design hand-assembled from precision aluminium and stainless steel. Its bearing pairs a polished tungsten and sapphire vertical bearing with a dual ceramic horizontal assembly, chosen for long life and low friction. A three-point headshell and a laser-etched VTA scale make it straightforward to set up and adjust.
This turntable is fitted with Koil, Linn’s entry-level moving coil cartridge. Koil uses a nude microlinear stylus on a low-mass boron cantilever, and Linn positions it as a step up in performance from Adikt, the moving magnet cartridge fitted to the MM version. Because Koil is a moving coil design, it needs a phono stage with moving coil support, which is worth checking against the rest of the system before choosing this cartridge over the MM version.
Because the LP12 is designed to be upgraded component by component rather than replaced outright, a Majik LP12 bought today can be brought forward through Linn’s range over the years without starting again with a new turntable.
