Wattson Audio

Swiss network players and converters, engineered and machined in-house down to the casework. Absolute Sound is the distributor for Wattson Audio in Singapore and Malaysia.

Machined from a single block

Wattson Audio works from Préverenges, on the shore of Lake Geneva. It grew out of Engineered SA, an electronics group that spent years designing circuits for other high-end audio names before deciding to build under its own. The catalogue is deliberately narrow: a network bridge, streaming converters and, more recently, amplification. The engineering effort goes into the parts of digital replay that are usually handed to a generic module. The Emerson’s casework is machined from a single block of aluminium, and the finished unit measures only 104 by 87 by 38 millimetres. Wattson has since been acquired by CH Precision, its neighbour there, and the two now share a building, a production floor and an engineering team.

Questions

What does a network bridge actually do?

It takes the streaming and networking work away from your converter, handles it properly, and hands over a clean digital signal. The Emerson DIGITAL exists for systems where the converter is already good and it is the source feeding it that is holding things back, which is more often the case than people expect.

Do I need to replace my DAC to stream with Wattson?

No. That is the point of the Emerson DIGITAL: it adds network streaming to a converter you already own and want to keep. If you would rather have both jobs in one box, the Emerson ANALOG and the Madison Streamer include Wattson’s own conversion stage.

Which streaming services do these work with?

Roon, Qobuz and Tidal are supported, along with Audirvana and ordinary network playback from a library of your own. In practice most systems we set up run Roon or Qobuz, and the choice usually comes down to the library you already have rather than the hardware.

What is the connection to CH Precision?

CH Precision acquired Wattson Audio, and the two companies now share headquarters, production and engineering in Préverenges. The ranges stay separate, with CH Precision at the very top of the market and Wattson concentrating on digital sources, but the engineering staff is common to both.
