Boulder

American amplification, engineered in Colorado since 1984 for measurable precision, not decoration. Absolute Sound is the distributor for Boulder in Singapore and Malaysia.

Built for the studio first

Boulder was founded in 1984 by Jeff Nelson, who built equipment for his own recording studio before turning to amplifiers full time. Four decades on, the company still designs and builds every amplifier, preamplifier and phono stage at its own facility near Boulder, Colorado. The range runs from the 800 Series, its most accessible line, up through the 1100 and 2100 Series to the 3000 Series at the top, each built around the same pursuit of measured, repeatable performance.

800 SeriesBoulder’s entry point into fully separated amplification: an integrated amplifier, phono preamplifier, DAC preamplifier and monoblock power amplifier, built to the same tolerances as the ranges above it.

1100 Seriesmono and stereo power amplifiers alongside phono and line preamplifiers, one tier up from the 800 Series.

2100 Seriesphono and line preamplifiers paired with mono and stereo power amplifiers, one tier below the flagship.

3000 SeriesBoulder’s flagship, pairing preamplifiers with mono and stereo power amplifiers built without compromise.

Questions about Boulder

What is the difference between the 800, 1100, 2100 and 3000 Series?

They are Boulder’s four tiers, in ascending order. The 800 Series is the most accessible tier, the 1100 and 2100 Series sit in the middle of the range, and the 3000 Series is the flagship. Each is built to the same tolerances, just scaled in power and complexity.

Where are Boulder amplifiers made?

In Colorado, at Boulder’s own manufacturing facility. Every amplifier, preamplifier and phono stage is designed and built in-house, rather than assembled from bought-in modules.

Does Boulder make phono stages as well as power amplifiers?

Yes. Every current series, from the 800 up to the 3000, includes a dedicated phono preamplifier alongside its line preamplifiers and power amplifiers, built to the same standard as the rest of the range.

Is Boulder Amplifiers named after the town in Colorado?

Yes. Founder Jeff Nelson began building equipment near Boulder, Colorado, and the company took the town’s name. Production has since moved a short distance away, but the name, and the pursuit of measured performance it started with, has not changed.
